Cal Newport

Computer science professor at Georgetown, author, and podcaster. Host of the Deep Questions podcast and the YouTube presence behind @CalNewportMedia. Author of Slow Productivity and, per his own long-running themes, Digital Minimalism and Deep Work (the last two are background knowledge, not claims from this vault’s sources).

In this vault he is the author of the three-camp map of the AI harm debate, presented on camera in 2026-10-04-youtube-newport-ai-harm-taxonomy (“An Insider’s Guide to AI Doom”, 2026-10-01) and abstracted into doomer-taxonomy. He places himself in it: “I’m one of them, but I also have a foot in the AI ethics world. I’m a part of the Center for Digital Ethics at Georgetown” (captioned 23:13 to 23:20).
