Arvind Narayanan
Computer scientist at Princeton, co-author (with Sayash Kapoor) of AI Snake Oil: What Artificial Intelligence Can Do, What It Can’t, and How to Tell the Difference (Princeton University Press, September 24, 2024). The book is the shelf behind the NTCS subgroup: the publisher’s description argues “why AI isn’t an existential risk” and urges worry “far more about what people will do with AI than about anything AI will do on its own”. Narayanan’s Princeton homepage carries his framing as “AI as normal technology”. Verified 2026-10-04 at ai-doom-paper-trail; affiliation and book were general reference before that pass.
In this vault he exists because 2026-10-04-youtube-newport-ai-harm-taxonomy names him once, at 22:26, as an example of the NTCS subgroup inside the Centrist camp (“Arvin Narayanan is in here”, captioned; the first name is a caption misspelling). He is not the author of the three-camp map. The first filing of the taxonomy pages mistakenly made him the speaker of Newport’s video, corrected the same day, see log.
