Malicious compliance (AI context)
Definition: performative over-use of AI when mandated by employer (“consume the maximum possible tokens” while secretly hand-coding the real work).
Origin
2026-10-04-youtube-ai-skeptic-sabbath: “If they force you to use AI at work, there’s always the option of malicious compliance. This is when you consume the maximum possible tokens.”
Structure
- Performative layer: maximum token consumption, visible AI usage
- Real layer: secret hand-coding to maintain quality and skills
- Waiting stance: “while everyone waits for the grand catastrophe”
Positioning
Interim individual tactic until structural intervention (ai-sabbath) exists. Not resistance to AI per se, but resistance to forced degradation of craft.
Quote
“Let it burn. Your house is burning. Let it burn. Let them drink the AI Kool-Aid. Everyone knows it’s just bullshit.”
